Life in the Arena: A Realtor’s Perspective
Step into the arena with me for a minute.
Being a realtor is a lot like being a gladiator. There’s a crowd watching, tickets have been bought, and expectations are high. The spectators — clients, friends, social media followers, even strangers — get to cheer, boo, or throw tomatoes. That’s part of their role. They see the performance, not the training, bruises, or battles that happen before I ever step into the spotlight.
But here’s the thing most people don’t realize: being the gladiator isn’t about one single moment. It’s about everything it took to get there. The hurdles. The late-night calls. The negotiations no one else sees. The balance between family, friendships, and career. The fight to be authentic in a world that often measures success by rigid standards of 9-to-5 grind and constant hustle.
I’ll admit, I’ve wrestled with guilt. Guilt for enjoying the freedom this career provides. Guilt for showcasing my life in ways that might come across as careless or irresponsible. Some see me as a juggler, tossing balls in the air, or maybe even as a jester, entertaining from the sidelines. But what they don’t see is the rigor, the responsibility, and the resilience it takes to do this job well.
Here’s the truth: I crush it. I’m a killer negotiator. I take care of my clients with everything I’ve got. And at the same time, I live life fully. That’s not a contradiction — that’s the balance. Success doesn’t always look like clocking in at 9 and out at 5. Sometimes, success looks like freedom. It looks like being present with your people, while still answering the phone, sending the documents, and making the deals happen.
Yes, real estate gives me freedom — but freedom doesn’t mean ease. It means responsibility. It means constantly being in the arena, choosing to fight for my career, my clients, my family, and my friends.
So, the next time you see the gladiator — remember: the arena is where the real work happens.
